The Diet has enacted legislation to increase the number of specialists with skills to counter cyberattacks ahead of the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo.

Under the revised law on cybersecurity, a new national qualification for those who “support work to ensure security in information processing” will be set up, with the government planning to start a qualification exam in fiscal 2017 beginning April next year. Tokyo hopes more than 30,000 specialists will have passed the exam by 2020.
