Recent high-profile cyber attacks on nuclear facilities, including the Stuxnet worm’s destruction of some 1,000 centrifuges at Iranian nuclear facilities in 2010 and hackers’ theft of sensitive data from a South Korean nuclear plant in 2014-2015, have raised concerns about their cyber security vulnerabilities. This is of particular import given the potential for a sophisticated cyber attack to cause a release of radiation.
